Burton brace makes it four wins in a row

Three goals and three vital points ensured that Crawley Town enjoyed their visit to the Glyn Hopkin Stadium as they continued their move away from the Conference relegation zone.

Both sides went into this game on the back of successive victories. Dagenham had won their last two games, while three consecutive wins had eased Crawley's worries on the field even if their off-field concerns remained.

Perhaps the best thing from what was a rather dour first half was that it just about stopped raining by the time the game reached the half-time break.

What chances there were fell to the home side and in particular Craig Mackail-Smith.

Twice the forward was released through on goal by Sam Saunders and twice Mackail-Smith was foiled by Crawley keeper Phil Smith.

Smith was also in good form as he produced a fine fingertip save to keep out a header from Cliff Akurang.

The visitors' best moment of the opening period came with a shout for a penalty. Steve Burton collided in the area with Daggers defender Shane Blackett but the referee waved away Crawley's appeals for a spot-kick.

The second half got a lot better for John Hollins' side. Not only did it stop raining completely but they also found the back of the net three times to secure an impressive win.

The first goal came 10 minutes into the half. Tony Scully tormented his former side with a low cross that was eventually turned home by Omari Coleman.

Coleman's strike partner Burton then joined in the act with two goals to give the scoreline an emphatic look.

Burton's first strike also came from close range, side-footing home a low cross from Ben Judge.

The striker's second came as his side caught Dagenham on the counter-attack. A long ball from Danny Clay cleared the entire Daggers defence leaving Burton to score past Tony Roberts in front of a delighted away support.
