Crawley's play-off hopes were severely dented after they threw away a two-goal lead against rock bottom Leigh RMI at the Broadfield Stadium.

The home side were in control for most of the game and it was no surprise when they went ahead after 16 minutes. Neil Jenkins played a short corner to Simon Wormull before curling a cross for Allan Tait to power a header into the bottom corner.

Crawley could have been more comfortably in front by half-time as they squandered two golden opportunities in quick succession just before the half-hour mark.

Charlie MacDonald latched onto a throughball by Maurice Harkin and beat Leam Coyne for pace to go free on goal, but after doing the hard work the former Charlton man sliced his finish horribly over.

John Robinson then somehow blasted over the top from eight yards after a neat lay-off by Tait.

Leigh almost made the Reds pay seven minutes before the interval when Lee Mulvaney beat three defenders and rattled a post with an angled drive.

MacDonald doubled Crawley's lead after 68 minutes when he beat the offside trap to race onto a neat pass by Tait, rounded keeper Jon Worsnop and slotted into an empty net.

However, the visitors were not finished and they gave themselves hope two minutes later when Gary Williams side-footed in from close range after keeper Phil Smith parried a shot by Lee Shillito.

Mulvaney snatched a point 13 minutes from time when he fired into an empty net after Smith had been beaten by a cross from Williams.
