Crawley win takes them top of the Conference

Reds held off a late Mansfield fightback to pick up a deserved win and go top of the Conference.

A sizeable crowd of 2,013 at the Broadfield Stadium saw Steve Evans' side go into a 16th minute lead when centre-back Adam Quinn headed home after Stags goalkeeper Patrick Gamble had misjudged a free-kick.

Reds continued to look the brighter side and Gamble did well to turn away a fierce shot on the turn from Danny Forrest.

The second half was just a minute old when the ball was played through the visitors defence and with Gamble dithering, Jamie Cook was allowed to dart through and walk the ball in for his fourth goal of the campaign.

The game should have been settled moments later but Crawley's Lewis Killeen blasted over from six yards, injuring himself in the process.

A disappointing Mansfield side were given a lifeline as sloppy defending and a mistake from home goalkeeper Simon Rayner let in Gary Silk to pull one back.

However, Reds dug in to claim the win which sees them hit the top after Cambridge United lost at home to Torquay.
