Crawley earned an important point for their play-off aspirations but did not leave Edgar Street with the plaudits of the home faithful ringing in their ears.

The visitors made no bones about playing to hold on to the point they came with, lining up with Charlie MacDonald as a lone striker and five men flooding midfield.

Hereford, as in their last two Conference matches, dominated possession but were unable to find a way through even when Crawley were down to ten men for the last 15 minutes after Sacha Opinel's second yellow card.

A misjudgement by Crawley goalkeeper Phil Smith allowed Ben Judge's back pass to slip under his foot and just wide for a corner as Hereford opened the stronger.

Tthe Bulls struggled to create openings of their own until the 32nd minute when a quickly-taken free-kick by Jamie Pitman found Danny Carey-Bertam on his own in the area. The youngster hurried his shot, however, and sliced the ball horribly wide.

After the interval, the same pattern of play continued and Crawley's Paul Armstrong came to his side's rescue by clearing Adam Stansfield's shot off the line with Phil Smith finally beaten.

Hereford's Craig Mawson saved well from an Ian Simpemba header before the Bulls charged forward again in the closing stages to try to make the most of their numerical advantage.

A Stansfield header from Carey-Bertram's cross drifted just past an upright and Phil Smith held on to a long-range effort before referee Steve Dorr blew the final whistle.
