A second-half penalty from midfielder Thomas Pinault earned Reds a share of the spoils against a strong Crystal Palace side.

The opening friendly of a busy pre-season campaign saw Palace boss Neil Warnock include recent signings Nick Carle and Johannes Ertl, while experienced Dougie Freedman was also among the stars on show.

Crawley handed first starts to a number of players, including goalkeeper Simon Rayner and defender Chris Giles, who was named captain for the night.

The visitors took the lead midway through the first half when winger Paul Ifill finished well from Shaun Derry's pass.

Town hit back when Pinault converted from the spot after Jake Wright was fouled in the box.
